In the introduction of the book, The Life-Changing Magic To Tidying-Up by Marie Kondo, she writes:
“When you’ve finished putting your house in order, your life will change dramatically. Once you have experienced what it’s like to have a truly ordered house, you’ll feel your world brighten.” – Marie Kondo
Could you really imagine that? I’m not sure about you but when my house is clean I am less distracted and can actually think better. Maybe you’re like me with an undiagnosed case of ADHD but when I have something to do it’s hard to think because I am distracted by the mounds of unfolded laundry or dirty dishes that are piled in the sink. So overwhelmed where to begin first I usually do what most of us do when we don’t want to face something. I use the word that many of us use as a default and no before you guess it is not never (although that was a good try), the word is tomorrow. I know you can agree with me because if you didn’t that would be a complete and total lie. Tomorrow’s are the real devils of today. Tomorrow’s allow you to put a front as if you are going to get something accomplished but in the words of Maury Povich “You are not telling the truth, that is a LIE!!!!!). No, we can not run around the stage like a mad person (which occurs when Maury makes this statement) but we can accept the truth that we have allowed tomorrow’s to steal the joy of today.
Kondo goes on to say ” When your room is clean and uncluttered you have no choice but to examine your inner state.” This is the foundation of Me Self Love getting to the root cause of the problem. In order to really and truly begin this journey, we must start at home so this is why we are taking this journey.
Unlike Kondo who advised in her book to clean in categories, I’m opting to clean by room. She also suggested cleaning everything at one time but let’s be honest who has two weeks of uninterrupted time. Cleaning this way will give me the motivation needed because I can immediately see progress faster. With all the changes that the Seller’s household will see in the next couple of weeks, we need to have a clean home! So where do we get started?
So where do we get started? That’s a great question. Today is the 16th of June and there are 14 days left until the end of the month and I refuse to go into another month with this mess. I divided my home into 5 main sections: living room, kitchen, library, bathrooms, and our bedroom. I divided my time based on how long I needed for the room to be completely cleaned. Now let’s clarify, I’m not talking about a spot cleaning. I’m talking about removing everything, dusting, vacuuming, and even washing the walls. I will take pictures and share the before and after so you can see my progress. Updates will be given on the next two Friday’s WITH pictures.
If you are joining me on this journey at any point of reading the blog I would love to hear from you. After all, there IS strength in numbers! Love Mob attack <- hey I like that!
